London, UK (HOL) – A 22 year old Somali man is being treated for the Swine Flu in London’s Whittinton hospital. In total, there are 122 case of Swine Flu confirmed in the UK 66 of whom live in London. This is the first Swine Flu case confirmed in the Somali community.
The patient’s sister has told us that her brother does not mind if we talk about his case and that he said he will be happy to talk about the Flu once he is released from hospital. He also emphasized the importance of vigilance in order to prevent against unnecessary spread of the disease.
He was diagnosed with the Flu on Wednesday. He has not traveled outside the UK recently. Authorities are investigating how he got the Flu.
Many Somalis are not vigilant enough when it comes to infectious diseases and may also believe wrongly that they are not at risk of the disease (perhaps since they don’t eat pork).
We encourage our readers to read the points below which will help them avoid catching the Flu.
1- Use a napkin when you are coughing or sneezing.
2- Was your hands with antibacterial soap frequently.
3- Carry with you a hand sanitizer and use it when necessary.
4- Avoid crowded areas.
5- Consult your doctor if come down with flu like symptoms or don’t feel well.
6- Minimize hand shaking and kissing.
