T uesday December 30, 2008 (HOL): Heavily armed Ethiopian troops have taken control of the house of Mogadishu’s former Mayor Mr. Mohamed Omar Habeb (also known as Mohamed Dhere).
It is reported that Ethiopian troops confiscated weapons in the house and that at the time Ethiopian troops took control of the house, Mohamed Dhere was not present in the house.
It is not clear yet as to why Ethiopian troops attacked the former Mayor’s house

although there are reports saying that the new Mogadishu Mayor Mr. Mohamed Osman Ali Dhagahtur is expected to take over occupancy of the house. The former Mayor of Mogadishu was a close ally of the former interim President Mr. Abdullahi Yusuf who resigned yesterday from his post as interim President. In fact one of the major disagreements between interim Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein and the former interim President Mr. Yusuf surfaced after interim Prime Minister fired the former Mayor, a decision the former interim President vehemently opposed at the time.
