Mogadishu (HOL) – At least seven people, including two government soldiers, were injured in a landmine explosion in Kahda district of Mogadishu on Friday, according to eyewitness accounts and local officials.
Eyewitnesses said the blast caused severe injuries, particularly to the legs of civilians, who were swiftly transported to hospitals in the capital for treatment.
Although no group has claimed responsibility, the Al-Shabaab militant group, which is designated as a terrorist organization by Somalia and the international community, frequently conducts roadside bombings and landmine attacks in the capital and across the country.
Kahda District Commissioner, Mohamed Shuqaale, confirmed the incident and stated that security forces are conducting operations in the area to track those responsible and prevent further attacks.
The site of the explosion has been previously targeted in similar attacks, especially on Thursdays and Fridays, when young people often gather in the area to take photos — making it a recurring target for such bombings.
