Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali government has reaffirmed its full
support for the people and government of Syria, calling for the preservation of
the country’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
In a statement issued Thursday, Somalia’s Ministry of
Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts through
dialogue and peaceful means, warning against the consequences of prolonged
violence and war.
“The Federal Republic of Somalia expresses its appreciation
for the responsible approach taken by the Syrian state in confronting its
challenges—particularly efforts aimed at reinforcing state sovereignty in the
south, strengthening the rule of law, and preserving national institutions,”
the ministry said.
The statement reiterated Somalia’s solidarity with Syria,
declaring support for the Syrian Arab Republic’s sovereignty, independence,
territorial security, and the aspirations of its people.
Somalia’s renewed support comes a day after Israeli
airstrikes targeted Syria’s Ministry of Defense in Damascus, collapsing four
floors of the building and damaging its facade. According to Syrian officials,
one person was killed and 18 others were wounded.
The strike marked Israel’s first attack on Damascus since
May and came amid ongoing clashes in southern Syria between the Syrian army and
Druze fighters—described as the country’s deadliest violence in months. It was
also the third consecutive day of Israeli strikes against Syrian military
targets.
