Hargeisa (HOL) - A police officer was killed during an operation in Hargeisa, Somaliland, on Tuesday, according to local police reports.
The victim, Abdillahi Ali Ahmed, was a member of either the East Hargeisa police department or the Macalin Haroun police station and was killed in Hargeisa city, as stated by a police spokesperson. The suspect has been apprehended, but no information has been given regarding the motive for the killing.
"The accused murderer of the officer has been caught and is being held in CID custody. He will appear in court today or tomorrow as the investigation continues," the spokesperson said.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have made no additional arrests.
The spokesperson emphasized that the deceased was killed while on duty and that witnesses were present. He also refuted claims that the soldier, originally from the Sool region, was killed due to clan violence.
"Our investigation shows the soldier's death was a tragic but typical murder, and those who claim he was murdered for clan reasons are mistaken," he said.
The commander also clarified that a soldier is a member of the police, and the police have the authority to apprehend and prosecute the accused.
