President Mohamud presents Ismail Omar Guelleh the Somali Medal of Honour

    Mogadishu (HOL) - President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud hosted the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh and his delegation for dinner held at the Villa Somalia on Thursday night.

    President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud presented Guelleh with a national medal of honour for his role in building and supporting the government and the Somali people.

    Mohamud emphasized that the inter-generational relationship and cooperation between Somalia and Djibouti is based on common citizenship, togetherness and neighbourliness.

    "Tonight is a historic night and a chance to promote our brotherhood. We can’t thank our brothers and sisters in Djibouti enough for their unforgettable support," President Mohamud said.

    Djibouti is one of five major troop-contributing countries to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), formerly the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM). The country has deployed 960 troops based in Beledweyne, which serves as Sector 4 headquarters.
