Mogadishu (HOL) - The National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting, which
includes the country's five regional state presidents and federal
government leaders, is expected to open in Mogadishu on Monday.
Galmudug
President Mohamed Abdi Kariye Qoor-Qoor, Hirshabelle President Ali
Gudlawe, Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe and Southwest President
Abdiaziz Laftagaren, and Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni all
arrived in the capital on Monday morning.
The federal
member state and federal government leaders will discuss the ongoing
offensive against al Shabab, drought relief, and distribution of the
country's resources between the different levels of government.
The
leaders are also expected to discuss the one-year extension for
President Abdiaziz Laftagaren following clashes in Baidoa between
Southwest state forces and militia loyal to the opposition candidate.
With the exception of President Deni, all of Somalia’s regional leaders have extended their mandates by one year.
Southwest
parliament extended President Abdiaziz Laftagaren's mandate by one year
three years ago, and it expires on December 19, 2023. However, regional
opposition figures are opposed to the term extension.
