MOGADISHU (HOL) - Former Education Minister Godah Barre has lashed out at the Federal Government accusing it of deploying colonial rule in Beletweyne to punish residents.
Barre said the government had resorted to collective punishment through curfews and destruction of the economy in Beletweyne and warned of legal action against all those responsible.
“If this situation persists, we will take legal action against all those who are responsible for the persecution of the people Beletweyne,” the former minister said.
He added that the government was now enforcing its rule on the region by force and suppressing any right of expression by the residents.
The remarks by the former minister who is also a member of parliament from Hiiraan region adds to similar concerns by elders who have accused the government of abetting violence.
At least four people were injured Saturday when demonstrations broke out in Beletweyne against the new state administration based in Jowhar.
