Istanbul - Turkey's navy has captured seven suspected pirates in the Gulf of Aden, according to media reports in Istanbul Sunday. A special unit captured the suspected pirates in their boat as they were navigating a maritime security corridor set aside for commercial shipping. The Turkish frigate Gemlik is operating in the Gulf of Aden to provide protection for food aid programmes shipping supplies to Somalia. It is part of a larger operation by NATO and other Western nations to police the Somali coast, which has become a hotbed of piracy in recent years.
