Jowhar, Somalia (HOL) - Al-Shabaab, one of the Islamic militant organizations battling Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) has imposed new restrictions on business operations in the city of Jowhar, the capital of Middle Shabeele.Al-Shabaab announced that businesses are not allowed to operate during prayer times. Chief of Police Forces in the City Mr. Mustafa Mohamed Abdi who spoke to reporters in the city said that they imposed the ban so that people can pray at regular times and that business operations and vehicle movements can be stopped.
Al-Shabaab forces could be seen today ordering the closure of businesses and ordering people to go to the mosques for prayers. It is reported that people in the city have welcomed the decision.
It is also reported that mosques in the city have been overflowing with prayers who in the past might have prayed at homes or at they business in groups.
The Police Chief also warned residents of the city against looting private and public properties and that anyone caught engaging in looting will face the full force of Islamic justice.
