Baidao, Somalia (HOL) - The former regional administration of Bay which has been forced out of city of Baidao has vowed to retake the city from Al-Shabab forces.The Governor of the region Mr. Abdifatah Ibrahim Geesey who is currently in the town of Doolow said that they lost control of the city to Al-Shabab forces as result of treason and conspiracy between some members of the Digil and Mirifle clan and Al-Shabaab leaders.
“The conspirators have divided the security forces of the city and allowed Al-Shabab to take control of the city” said the Governor who added that his forces are on their way to the city and will retake the city in the next few days.
Similarly, the deputy Governor of the Bay region Mr. Shiine Moalin Nuurow who is currently in Hudur town in Bakool region said that he is organizing an army to retake the city from Al-Shabab.
The deputy Governor also blamed members of Somalia’s interim Parliament for aiding Al-Shabab to take control of the city and added that in the next few days their troops will reach Baidao.
The city of Baidao has been the temporary headquarters of the interim Parliament where Ethiopian troops have providing security in the last two years. After the withdrawal of Ethiopian troop, Al-Shabab forces took control of the city. Latest reports say that Al-Shabab leaders are in consultation with the city’s elders and community leaders and are expected to install an Islamic government.
Spokesman for the Al-Shabab forces Sheik Mukhtar Roobow Abuu Mansuur who spoke to the city’s people said that Bay region will be ruled based on Islamic Sharia and whoever is opposed to being ruled under Islamic Sharia will not be welcome in Bay region.
