The former interim President talked about the situation in Somalia in general and the elections in Puntland in particular.

Mr. Yusuf talked about the necessity of the people of Puntland in uniting for the security of the region and warned against possible political and security upheaval as a result of the region’s elections that will take place on January 8, 2009.

Mr. Yusuf also said that pirates in the region are hindrance to the region’s interests and blamed the leaders of the region for not combating them effectively.

Talking about the Transitional Federal Government (TFG), Mr. Yusuf said that unless responsible leaders are elected to lead the country, the situation will deteriorate and added that would like see peace in all of Somalia.

From his speech, one could sense that the former interim President is still involved in Somalia politics although there have been reports that he is retiring from politics.
