Doha: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) will send a medical team to Somalia in the next few days to work in the “Madina” hospital in Mogadishu for one year, as part of the agreement signed between the QRC and the hospital administration recently.

The medical team consists of four doctors specialising in general surgery, orthopeadic surgery, emergency medicine, gynaecology and obstetrics as well as an anesthetist and a nurse for the surgery room. In accordance to the agreement signed between the two sides, the QRC will also rehabilitate some parts and sections of the hospital, and repair a large wing of 30 rooms that have been out of service for more than ten years.

Meanwhile, the QRC, in cooperation with the hospital administration, plans to choose five of new graduate Somali doctors to join a training scholarship to get the Arab Fellowship Board in various medical disciplines in Yemen.

It is worth mentioning that Qatar Red Crescent is the only Arab humanitarian organization working in Somalia currently.
