Sana'a - Yemen has deployed 1,000 soldiers and 16 military boats to fight rampant piracy by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab in Yemen.
Soldiers have also intensified their security patrols round the clock to reinforce the protection of ships and reduce piracy operations, a Yemeni Coast Guard Authority source said.

The deployment of these soldiers comes at a time when Yemen is coordinating with the Joint Forces in the African Horn, Malaysia and Japan in order to establish a regional center to fight piracy and reinforce the protection of the international navigation route via Aden Gulf. Earlier, the Cabinet had approved a memorandum of understanding between Western Indian Ocean countries, Gulf of Aden and Red Sea area for combating piracy and armed attack against the ships in the region.
The Cabinet has authorised the Minister of Transport to sign the memorandum and to oversee the preparations for the second regional meeting on the memorandum of understanding which is expected to be held in Sana'a from October 27 to 30 this year.
