Speaking of the assassination of Mr. Mahdi and the firefight that followed, the Commissioner of Yaaqshiid district said that there will be an investigation into the assassination to identify the culprits. Tehe Commissioner expressed sadness about the assassination of Mr. Mahdi.
Soon after the firefight ended, Ethiopian troops arrived at the scene and took positions in areas of the market interrupting movement of people and businesses in the market. Suuq Bacaad market is the second largest market in Mogadishu after Bakarah Market.
In addition to being head of Women Care in Jowhar, Mr. Mahdi was also a prominent member of the sports community in Somalia. His death has come as a shock to many in Mogadishu.
