Mogadishu (HOL) - In Mogadishu's Karaan district, an 80-year-old man killed his son last night, authorities said. The elder, known as Qadr, reportedly shot his son, Mohamud Qadr, following a prolonged dispute.
The simmering conflict between father and son turned violent shortly after evening prayers. The murder, which occurred as many people were breaking their fast on the first day of Ramadan, stunned both relatives and residents.
Following the altercation, the elder Qadr fled the scene. Security forces are now urging locals to aid in his capture, highlighting the community's role in addressing such tragedies.
This murder is the latest in a concerning pattern of family-related violence in the region.
Last month, the deaths of three women in one week, all allegedly murdered by their husbands, sparked outrage in Somalia and days of protests against the country's femicide rate.
At least one of those cases was resolved last week when a Banadir court sentenced Sayid Ali Moalin Daoud to death for burning his pregnant wife, Luul Abdiaziz, in Mogadishu in January 2024.
