Mogadishu (HOL) - The Somali Police Force successfully seized 140 mortars in a targeted midnight operation against Al-Shabaab militants in Mogadishu, according to police spokesperson Khasim Ahmed Roble. This operation was a response to recent mortar attacks by terrorists within the city.
Additionally, Roble linked the fires that recently erupted in the Bakaara market to explosives concealed by militants in a scrapyard, highlighting the persistent security challenges in the region.
Defense Ministry Initiates New Army Command Base Construction
Somalia's defence infrastructure is set to be strengthened as Abdikadir Mohamed Nur, Minister of Defence, laid the foundation stone for a new command base for the ground forces. Gen. Ibrahim Sheikh Muhidin and Gen. Dayah Abdi Abdulle from the Somali National Army participated in the ceremony.
The new facility marks a significant enhancement in the army's operational capabilities. It aims to fulfill critical logistical and strategic needs, reflecting the government's focus on self-reliance and enhanced security measures.
