Hiiraan Governor warns military officials slowing down offensive as Al Shabaab takes back territory

    Beledweyne (HOL) - Somalia's al Shabab insurgents reportedly recaptured Yasoman and Moqokori districts in the Hiiraan region on Saturday after Somali government forces backed by local pro-government militia groups withdrew from the recently liberated communities.

    The joint forces captured the districts last week following heavy fighting that killed several troops from both sides.

    The governor of the Hiiraan region, Ali Jeyte Osman, said at a news conference in Mahas district that segments within the army want the ongoing operations against al Shabab in the Hiiraan region to fail. However, Jeyte did not elaborate or name the alleged detractors.

    He said the current operations are going well but that the military must consolidate the victories won in the war against Al-Shabaab and eliminate those in the army sabotaging the operation.

    "I am sending a stern message to everyone working to spread lies and sabotage the operation against Al-Shabaab militias, a culture supported by al-Shabaab."

    "I swear by Allah that I will not tolerate the folks involved in this atrocity after today. I consider them the same as al Shabab," he said.

    The governor commanded a major role of the Somali National Army in the ongoing offensive operations against al Shabab terrorists in the central Somalia region of Hiiraan.
