The much anticipated Somali Week Festival 2016 was welcomed in London by the British Museum on Friday in collaboration with Kayd Somali Arts & Culture.
The keynote speaker Ahmed I Samatar looked into how relevant traditional Somali literature is in todays world. Samatar is prominent Somali writer, professor and former dean of the Institute for Global Citizenship at Macalester College, and expert in the global political economy, political and social thought and African development,
The evening concluded with a beautiful set of performances by singer-songwriter Ahmed Naaji Saad. A former musician, Professor Samatar also sang some songs with Naaji. Ahmed Naaji has had a long career that has seen him promote the preservation and promotion of Somali culture and music.
