Today demonstrators took to the streets of Berbera against the handover of the town's sea port to DP World, a firm based in the UAE.
The protestors burnt tires on the streets to show their discontent over the matter. They were demanding that the decision by their government to be reversed so that the administration of the sea port remains within their own government and not a third party.
The demonstration comes at a time when logistical experts and engineers from DP World were surveying the port and the on-going activities.
Security has been beefed up in the town especially in and around the port since yesterday. Many security personnel were deployed in the different parts of the town to contain the protests.
Police eventually quelled the protest.
Since recent revelation that the port was due to be handed over to DP World, criticism were on the increase citing its administration should never go to a third party.
