NAIROBI -- Kenyan soldiers on Monday killed seven Al-Shabaab fighters in southern Somali town of Dobley as they intensify their onslaught against militants.

Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) spokesmen David Obonyo who confirmed the incident said the forces which are part of the Africa Union misson in Somalia (AMISOM) ambushed the militants believed to have been abducting several people along the border with Somalia and also recovered an assortment of weapons.

Obonyo said two of the Kenyan soldiers were slightly injured during the attack a few kilometers after Dobley town but are out of danger.

"We caught up with Al-Shabaab fighters during our normal operations inside Somalia. These militants have been causing disturbance along the border and killed 7 of them and captured an assortment of weapons including four grenades and three machine guns," Obonyo told Xinhua by telephone.

"However, two of our soldiers were slightly injured during the attack. We rushed them to the hospital and are out of danger," Obonyo added.

"KDF personnel came across these militants before they hit back. This is an area where operation has happened several times," he added.

Dobley area is one of the KDF controlled sectors operating under the umbrella of AMISOM in flushing out the Al-Shabaab terror network.

This comes less than a week after they repulsed 40 militants of an Al-Shabaab linked terror network days after Al-Shabaab crossed into Kenya from Somalia, and went to "preach" for two hours in a Mosque in Ijara warning the Mosque leaders from exposing sympathizers.

The government has already started construction of proposed wall between Kenya and Somalia in Kiunga, Lamu County to address the heavily porous unmanned borders believed to be easy route for terrorists to sneak into the country.
