National Assembly Leader of Majority Aden Duale has come under sharp criticism for failing to provide a list of sympathisers and financiers of Al-Shabaab as he promised.

Several leaders criticised the Garissa Town MP, terming the move to backtrack on the commitment as reckless and accused him of trivialising security.

They called on the government to compel him and northeastern leaders to produce the list.

Senate Minority Leader Moses Wetang’ula (Bungoma, Ford-K) termed Mr Duale’s change of heart about his intention to disclose the Al-Shabaab financiers as extremely arrogant.

He said Mr Duale had just demonstrated that the government is an impediment in the fight against terrorists and has mastered the art of double-speak.

“A leader must be held responsible for what they do and say.  These bunch of fellows who have been making extremely reckless statements must be dealt with,” said Mr Wetang’ula.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed said the Garissa Town MP should take responsibility for terrorist acts in the region.

“It is sad that a senior government official like Duale can choose to ridicule Kenyans on a matter as serious as terrorism,” said the MP.

SHARE INTELLIGENCE

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale said Mr Duale should stop taking Kenyans for a ride and provide the list if indeed he was committed to making Kenya a secure nation.

“Let no one cheat us that our state of security is strong. Duale should give us the list he promised, as early as yesterday,” said Dr Khalwale.

He said the lives of Kenyans should be given priority.

Dr Khalwale said it was improper for Mr Duale to claim northern region leaders were working to make the country safe yet they fail to share intelligence.
