The Nairobi government has demanded land ownership documents from two Eastleigh businessmen.

In a letter dated March 5, the county asked Farah Barrow to submit copies of ownership documents in respect of two pieces of land that were initially leased by the government to the Nairobi City Council.

This follows a complaint letter by Eastleigh North Small Scale Traders to county Lands chief officer, accusing Barrow and another businessman, Duale Ibrahim, of occupying the land off Muthigiri Road on First Avenue Eastleigh.

The complainants, led by Hamisi Ali and Ephantus Mugo, say the two businessmen have improper documents for the plots where they are conducting businesses.

However, according to a survey report conducted by Geodetic Systems for Iseme, Kamau and Maema Advocates on January 12, 2009, the surveyor did not find the title documents for the two properties at the lands office.

The surveyors, however, confirm that the two plots and all others surrounding them are part of land leased to the Nairobi City Council, New Eastleigh Primary School, Eastleigh market and Eastleigh Social Hall.

“The title documents to the premises, which you forwarded to us, do not appear to relate to the plots identified on the ground,” says the surveyor’s report.
