Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia’s top Police commander, General Mohamed Hassan Ismail, passed away today at Ummah hospital in Mogadishu. Doctors and Police officials confirmed that the General died following a sudden heart attack.
Deputy Commander of the Somali Police Forece Gen. Osman Omar Weheliye (Gas-gas) has been named as interim commander of the police force.
General Ismail had spent several days in hospital before his sudden death after complaining about his health according to friends and family members who were at the hospital.

The president conveyed his condolences to the General’s family, friends and colleagues. He praised General Ismail as a man who dedicated a large proportion of his life to the security and progress of his people.
General Ismail is expected to receive a state funeral open to the public according to Police insiders and he leaves behind his wife and children who live in Canada.
