A 49-year-old Somali man was this afternoon remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to the attempted murder of two Sudanese men.

Abdirahman Ahmed, 49, also denied stabbing the men and to being in the illegal possession of a knife.

The incident occurred on Saturday at around 6:30pm during an argument at a house in Triq id-Duluri, Hamrun. Informed sources explained that during the argument, two Sudanese men, aged 55 and 46 respectively, were stabbed by a sharp and pointed instrument.

The police said that, at around 10pm, the two Sudanese victims turned up at the Hamrun police station with their clothes drenched in blood. The two men were subsequently taken to Mater Dei Hospital where they were certified to be suffering from grievous injuries.

Standing before Magistrate Giovanni Grixti this afternoon, the accused denied stabbing the Sudanese men.

No request for bail was made and the accused was consequently remanded in custody.

Police inspectors Robert Vella and Edel Mary Camilleri prosecuted.
